Curcuma longa

Turmeric
  • Turmeric is a Gourmet Edible in the One Earth Edibles line.
  • A reliable perennial, Turmeric is grown for its orange roots. Sometimes it is also called Indian Saffron.
  • Turmeric roots may be peeled and grated fresh to season rice or egg dishes, as part of a marinade for chicken, and for use in smoothies.
  • Leaves of Turmeric may be used to wrap fish when grilling.

Interesting Notes:

Turmeric will loose its leaves and die back to the ground in the late fall. Homeowners in Zone 6 and lower can either harvest the roots and store in a garage or basement over the winter, or can enjoy Turmeric as a houseplant.
