Lavender ‘Phenomenal’® has earned its place as the benchmark for modern lavender production, and it’s easy to see why growers around the world now consider it the gold standard. Dependable in the field, greenhouse, and home garden alike, the Phenomenal Family of Lavender® delivers the performance and consistency growers can count on, and the beauty that keeps customers asking for it by name!

Why ‘Phenomenal’® Leads the Field

Unlike traditional lavenders that tend to split or open in the center, ‘Phenomenal’® maintains a uniform, mounding habit with strong silver-green foliage and long-lasting color. It’s tough enough to handle cold winters down to Zone 5 and stands up well to heat and humidity, making it a reliable choice in almost any region. Growers often find that losses are low, timing stays on track, and the crop is easy to care for from start to finish.

Growing Guidelines for Success

No two growing environments are the same, but a few simple guidelines can help lavender thrive just about anywhere:

  • Spacing: Plan for 2–3′ in the field to maintain airflow and consistent shape.
  • Drainage: Excellent drainage is critical. Lavenders don’t like “wet feet,” so raised beds or well-drained soil mixes help prevent root issues.
  • Watering: Once established, lavender prefers drier conditions. Overwinter watering should be kept to a minimum to prevent rot.
  • Plants per Acre: For production planting, allow roughly 2,000-4,000 plants per acre, depending on spacing and bed configuration. Lower numbers per acre in more humid areas, always allow for good air circulation.

Every site is a little different, so growers should always watch how their soil, temperature, and humidity interact and adjust accordingly. For more detailed growing advice, reach out to your local extension office or connect with experienced lavender growers in your area.

Pruning Practices: Timing Matters

Lavender pruning isn’t a one-size-fits-all process, and understanding species differences is key to success.

  • Intermedias (Lavandula × intermedia) such as ‘Phenomenal’®,’ ‘Sensational!,’® and others in the Phenomenal Family of Lavender® lineup should only be pruned in late summer or fall, after blooming.
  • Angustifolias (Lavandula angustifolia) can be trimmed as soon as dormancy breaks in spring and lightly again in early fall if needed.

Regular pruning helps maintain that dense, mounding form growers love while preventing plants from becoming woody over time.

The Peace Tree Difference

Peace Tree Farm’s lavender genetics are carefully selected for vigor, uniformity, and consistency, resulting in plants that perform reliably from propagation to the garden center. The Phenomenal Family of Lavender® has global brand recognition and remains the only lavender consumers consistently request by name!
